Jerry is President of the Jerry & Paula Baker Foundation and Chairman of the Board for Camp Tuolumne Trails. The inspiration for the camp came in 2001 when the Bakers started looking for ways to give back. Many years before, the seed of supporting children with special needs was planted when their youngest son was diagnosed with a brain tumor. While all turned out well, the traumatic experience of caring for a seriously ill child gave them a perspective that would affect the rest of their lives.
After Jerry retired as Executive Vice President of Global Operations at Fairchild Semiconductor in 2001, he and Paula felt it was time to move into the world of philanthropy. The Jerry & Paula Baker Foundation was established and work began on finding the appropriate land to build Camp Tuolumne Trails. After three years of construction, they opened the doors to it first campers in June 2008.
Paula is Secretary of the Jerry & Paula Foundation and is the creative force at camp. She develops and leads the camp’s artistic activities for special-needs campers. She is constantly developing new hands-on arts & craft projects adapted for a wide range of physical and mental abilities.
Raised in Los Altos, early on Paula worked at Digital Equipment and the medical industry, and was active in their sons’ school activities.
